Hospice patients have access to a wide range of medications to help manage symptoms and improve their quality of life. The types of medications used will depend on the patient’s individual needs and symptoms. Here are some of the medications that may be available to hospice patients:
Hospice patients may be prescribed pain medications to help manage pain associated with their condition. These medications can include opioids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other types of pain relievers.
Hospice patients may experience anxiety related to their condition or other factors. Anti-anxiety medications such as benzodiazepines may be used to help manage these symptoms.
Hospice patients who experience nausea or vomiting may be prescribed anti-nausea medications to help manage these symptoms.
Hospice patients may experience depression related to their condition or other factors. Antidepressants may be used to help manage these symptoms.
Hospice patients who develop infections may be prescribed antibiotics to help treat the infection.
Hospice patients may be prescribed other medications as needed to manage specific symptoms or conditions. These may include medications to treat constipation, insomnia, or other symptoms.
